We use the summer to the fullest

The unfavorable pandemic situation during the school year was not very favorable to our activities. Although we anticipated the possible risks, no one had any idea that one day the schools would close and children from the disadvantaged environment of the Roma settlements would be left with almost no access to education. We try to make the most of the summer months.

In the periods when group meetings were at least partially possible, we helped the children cope with school tasks in cooperation with the teachers.

We try to make the most of the summer months. Even if children are not interested in learning during the holidays, we conduct our meetings in such a way that they always learn something while playing.

Thanks to the cooperation with OZ Horúci tim, we have introduced montessori activities in some villages, which are very interesting and attractive for children, they learn a lot through them and develop their skills. We try to involve parents in education, who are present at some meetings, can watch how the workers attend to them and can work with children at home in a similar way.

One of our goals is to improve relations between Roma and non-Roma children, to improve the perception of Roma communities by the majority society. That's why we organized several meetings where the children solved different tasks together, made soaps and magnets, presented their skills in musical and sports activities, went on a trip together and made new friends.

The project "Education as a way out of poverty" is supported by the ACF - Slovakia program, which is financed by the EEA Financial Mechanism 2014-2021. The administrator of the program is the Ekopolis Foundation in partnership with the Bratislava Open Society Foundation and the Carpathian Foundation. The goal of the project is to increase the educational level of children from marginalized Roma communities, improve school attendance, build and improve relations between Roma and non-Roma populations.
